The last remaining piece from the Artifact Collection, this ring was inspired by the ancient jewelry of Rome, objects whose apparent simplicity concealed remarkable ingenuity, created to be worn closely and carried through a lifetime.
At its center is an extraordinary piece of natural, untreated, high-grade Arizona turquoise, exceptionally hard and rich with dark matrix and traces of pyrite. The stone was originally chosen to be carved into a skull. But while working with it, Gianni felt something unexpected from the stone:
“I’m already a skull.”
So he listened.
Rather than carving away what nature had created, Gianni left the turquoise in its natural form. Look closely and a face begins to emerge within its contours, a strange, playful little presence that seems to have been there all along.
The stone is pierced and suspended on a single axis, allowing it to turn and flip within its handmade sterling silver setting. The movement gives the ring an almost talismanic quality: something to touch, turn and live with rather than simply wear.
Like the ancient objects that inspired the Artifact Collection, this piece carries the marks of the hand that made it. It is intentionally elemental, tactile and deeply personal.
