The Artist
Gianni Crow is an artist whose work refuses to be confined to a single medium, tradition, or place.
A jeweler, painter, photographer, writer, storyteller, actor and healer, Gianni has spent a lifetime exploring different forms of expression. His Native American heritage is an important part of his story, but his artistic language has been shaped by a much wider world.
After living for four decades in New York City, Gianni’s creative life has crossed disciplines, cultures, and continents. His years in theater and acting developed his instinct for character and storytelling, while his travels and studies brought him into contact with artists and craftspeople throughout the Americas and Europe. He has learned from jewelers and artists in England, Italy, and France, absorbing techniques and traditions while continually developing a language entirely his own.
His materials are just as varied. Gold, silver, gemstones, natural and found materials, paint, photography, words; there is no prescribed formula. The material follows the idea.
Ancient techniques may meet contemporary thought. Precious materials may sit beside the unexpected. History, spirituality, memory, humor, curiosity, travel, and imagination move freely through the work.
Whether the result is a piece of jewelry, a painting, a photograph, a story, or something that resists definition, the intention remains the same:
To create something that carries a story.
